Staffing is a very vital task for the Human Resource department of any company because they are the first and last people the employees get to talk to. They filter who gets in the company and identify problems for the reason why people leave the company. Staffing is a very complex task the involves a lot of hiring procedures, identifying needs of current employees and making reports to the higher ups what should be added or subtracted.

Whatever mistakes they made in hiring that were made in the past have to be revised to get better workers in the future. It is a continuous process that is continuously changing as the company grows. They check on problems and concerns with the company in terms of manpower and what doesn’t contribute positive results within the workforce. Staffing includes all the nitty gritty details to get the concerns of different departments to the leaders of the company.

They don’t go against the company but they air out the concerns that would contribute positively to the company. Things like concerns with coordination between departments or disputes are dealt with by the HR Department. Interviews, questionnaires on how people are faring in the company are common things that you may get from the memos in every department. All these small details are what contribute to the growth of the company, and if you’re part of the staffing team, make sure to be proud of it because it’s not an easy task that everyone can do.

Staffing: Appropriate Skills, Capabilities and Attitude

Staffing is not as simple as most people think it is. Others would usually think that you just have to see available jobs within the company and have that filled. It’s not always the case because most companies have specific requirements that they would like to see in their employees. For example, if you’re going to hire a clerk to work for Chicken Soup for the Soul, they may have different criteria of who they want to hire compared to hiring a clerk for a playboy magazine or a media office.

There are different rush deadlines, different attitudes that they may want to see in who they want to hire. Clerks at law firms would have to remember to keep what they hear from their office because of the sensitive nature of their cases. Clerks in beauty magazines would also be different given the different people they deal with and the requirements for deadlines are also different. If the person cannot get along with the people in the company, then it is most likely that the Human Resources department will have to look for someone else.

This is the reason why people in charge of staffing must also understand a bit of psychology when hiring people or considering their staff. Some big companies really hire psychometricians to identify the personality of the person who are applying for their company. So before you go thinking staffing is an easy job, you’d better think again because staffing keeps companies afloat and keep people employed.

Staffing: Working for a Mangaka

First off, a mangaka is a Japanese comic artist that can independently work for his own publications or can work with a very good company. The more popular the mangaka, the more staff he would need in publishing his works. If you’re thinking of helping someone move his comics or manga forward, you need to involve several people in the manga business.

Among the people you would need are a manager, line artists and people in charge of letterings and inking. There is even a different focus for each of these jobs because of the vast action scenes, expressions and backgrounds that need to be worked with. You also have to consider the space and how much the usual pay is for each artist working for the main mangaka. Being a manga artist is not a work done by one single person and it would really help to have an organized group of staff that will help the publication to move forward.

Aside from this, you would have to identify the growing needs of the artists working under you to have a better understanding of their work, as they need to feel appreciated for their work. Staffing includes being aware of what the employees need, even if it’s just a small company. Staffing for a Café

If you’re starting out a small café business, then you need to identify all the employees and needs your new business will have. It’s one thing to understand how a business goes, but it’s also another factor to know how to fill in the positions that you will need for your café. It’s not that difficult to do, you just have to figure out what tasks are needed to be done, how many people it will need to accomplish those needs and how much you are able to finance for all those needs.

You have to consider how big your space is and how many waiters would need to tend to these customers. Would the waiters also handle orders or helping in the kitchen or can you fully support one chef and one cleaner? Since it’s just a small café, you have to consider that there would be times that the chef or the cleaner might be idle and could actually wait tables or handle other small matters. It’s really up to you how to do designate the staffing, but you just have to remember that all their tasks have to be clear-cut because you’ll be paying them according to their tasks.

Consider increasing staff only once your business is already well on its own way and you can begin to expand to cater to more customers. Staffing doesn’t have to be complicated so long as you know the needs of your café. Never forget that your hiring must be equal to the expenses that you can shell out.

Identifying Staffing Needs

If you’re new in the HR department, staffing needs may be one of the few things that you have to take note of. Companies continue to grow depending on the progress of the type of work they have and in turn needs and employees also change. You may find yourself suddenly lacking in janitors, clerks or needing an extra assistant manager in a department that suddenly doubled in workforce.

The HR department is always on its toes in figuring out what makes the employees happy or what makes their work difficult. More often than not, as part of the HR department, it is your task to hand surveys or questionnaires to see the general needs of the company. You see what complaints are prominent and deal with them. After a few weeks or a week after implementation, you should be able to ask or hear about feedback on the new additions or deductions within the staffing needs.

As part of the HR department, your reports are quite focused on the workforce of your company. If there are variables that do not include hiring more people for a better work output or identifying problem workers, you will have to report to other departments that are in charge. As much as staffing entails a great deal of research and understanding the company, HR is always geared in helping the company to grow in the best way possible. Your department will always be needed in identifying staffing needs and concerns related to it.

Staffing: A Job for Human Resource Management

If you work for a large company, they will have at most 20 different departments working on different tasks. The Human Resource Management department works on hiring, maintaining and evaluating people working for the company. Of course, they also handle requests and other matters concerning the company. Part of their job is handling staffing.

Staffing is a broad task on its own. It involves identifying the needs of the company and the jobs that would fit those needs. If the job description still doesn’t exist as an official job title, the HRM department provides the description and makes it as an available position to fill. They make the definition including eligibility and required tasks that a person must be able to perform in order to take the position offered.

This also entails knowing until when the job position is needed, depending on the needs of the company. If the company building needs some repairs or overall maintenance, there’s a chance that the company would want to hire a temporary repairman or painter. It is the task of the HRM department to state the duration of the job and what the person can expect out of the job. Staffing highly depends on the needs of the company therefore they are also involved with regards of firing or closing departments that serve little or no purpose within the company. Although the latter rarely happens, it’s up to the HRM department to see to compensations or alternative jobs to distribute people in.
